words of thoughts. + switchfoot concert.

i turned twenty this weekend.

i spent lots of the weekend tweeting in lowercase, listening to music, and just thinking.  i ate a lot of cupcakes.  i watched tlc and mtv and hung out with some of my family.

i ate amazing smores brownies from none other than our awesome neighbour Lori, the master chef of the Little Kitchen on the Prairie.

i spent a few hours writing late at night.  so good.  so, so good.  i hope to expand on some of that in the blog soon.  it was full of stuff that has been brewing a long time, but has finally surfaced as to what i really need, what i really mean.  i’m really excited about that.

i culminated and ended the weekend with brenda and tara at an amazing, amazing show by the amazing, amazing switchfoot.  brenda scored us amazing seats.

12 of 12 – may ‘11!

On the 12th of each month, a bunch of bloggers take 12 pictures throughout the day.  Here are my pictures for May 12th, 2011!

DSCF7794

9: 04 am – Athletic Center Nap Area.  Here I was trying to do readings, and there were HUNDREDS of high school kids roaming around and screaming in the nap area.  I have no idea why they were on campus, but they were highly distracting.

DSCF7799

9:38 am – Nap area.  Finally I got sick of them and got up and weaved through about 300 more of them and grabbed a London Fog and a muffin.  And then, magically, they were gone!  [The field in the background is where my class played tag last week!]

DSCF7810

2:36 pm – mall.  Lucas.  They honestly do NOT get cuter than my friend Kelly’s son.

DSCF7814

4:02 pm – kitchen.  Life of a kinesiology student.  Gym clothes and textbooks about physical activity are seriously cluttering my kitchen.  It’s mandatory for me to wear gym clothes [including sweatpants] to school on gym prac days, so it ends up all over the place, as do old textbooks that are applicable to current papers.

DSCF7816

4:05 pm – bathroom.  Exciting, eh?  So I figure that being a vegetarian who often forgets to eat until, you know, two PM and is semi-active, I should probably start taking vitamins again.  Centrum makes vitamins called Performance that have higher levels of B-vitamins, but at the pharmacy I looked at on Tuesday they were $26.  At Shoppers, they were $16.  I bought the store-brand and they were $10 for 5 more.  Yay vitamins?

DSCF7817

4:11 pm – kitchen.  My hard drive works a ton better when I actually plug it into my computer.  Makes sense.

DSCF7818

6:22 pm – kitchen.  Have seriously been listening to this song all day.

DSCF7821

6:31 pm – bathroom.  I no lie am dumb enough that I went into the bathroom to use the mirror to take a picture of the shirt I was wearing, only to realize that, DUH, the words would be backwards.  Why I did not take this one in my room is a mystery.  Anyway, that is the shirt I am wearing today.

 DSCF7824

6:55 pm – costco.  WHY ARE THE COSTCO CARTS SO FREAKING TALL??  Also why does everybody pronounce it “cosco” instead of “cosTco”?  By the way, CosTco only seems to have workout pants in large and extra large.  Do they believe that small people like myself don’t have to work out?!

DSCF7826

8:07 pm – marble slab.  Sam and I went for ice cream to the Marble Slab.  You know, to pay $8.25 for ice cream.  It was delicious, though—called Girl’s Best Friend or something, b-day cake ice cream, brownie bits and cookie dough with chocolate syrup blended in . . . and in a white-chocolate waffle-bowl.  I did indeed find happiness within the container.

NEED to work out tomorrow.

DSCF7827 8:55 pm – bedroom.  We then came back to my house and sat in my room for all of three songs with the hippie lights on.

DSCF7829

9:35 pm – wal-mart.  Then we went to Wal-Mart on a mission.  Except it involved actually buying stuff and not shenanigans [whoa, that video was a year ago yesterday!].  PS. I hate wal-mart.

the distance

i’ve been to pretty buildings, all in search of You

road trip '08 etc 074

i have lit all the candles . . . sat in all the pews

road trip '08 etc 014

. . .

oh the distance is not doable / in these bodies of clay my brother / oh the distance makes me uncomfortable / guess it’s natural to feel this way. / we’re locked to these bodies / let’s hold out for something sweeter . . .

my car became the church and i / the worshipper of silence there / in a moment peace came over me / and the One who was beating my heart appeared

this distance is dreaming / we’re already there tonight

the distance, live

Sometimes, things just summate my experiences, my thoughts so perfectly.  Live lyrics – they do that a lot.  I’ve listened to this song countless times today.  Images of still empty churches, deserted pews.  Stillness.

So hitting me – and so, so good.

My uncle loves this snow hill apparently.  Every time we drove past it he went “And there’s the snow pile!”

Apparently this is what they do with excess snow in Alberta as opposed to here where we just pile it up.

In T&T Supermarket, an Asian market in West Edmonton Mall.  The majority of the market did not to over well with me as it was full of hanging pigs and chickens with feet and live crabs about to be killed.  Apparently that was a place where being a vegetarian was a bad thing.

Uncle Paul and Auntie Louise [actually my GREAT aunt and uncle] took us for dinner at the fancy Marriott on our last night in Edmonton because the casinos give them various gift card moneys for their patronage [aka they go scan their cards DAILY to get points.  Its like their full time job].

Love you too, Tim’s.  But you existed in Edmonton, so I didn’t have to miss you, I just didn’t have you while there.

Video to come whenever I have some time to edit it together.

12 of 12 – february ‘11!

On the 12th of each month, a bunch of bloggers take 12 pictures throughout the day.  Here are my pictures for February 12th, 2011!

DSCF7306

12:00 AM – hotel.  Just arrived back at the hotel after the rock show I nearly slept through.  So tired.  We’re at a youth event that is fondly known as HOTEL-O-RAMA.

DSCF7308

12:13 am – hotel.  Hangin’ with the grade seven girls who are totally awesome.  Time for junk food!

DSCF7309

1:22 am – hotel.  Apples to Apples.  How often do I play this game on the 12th?!  It’s crazy!

DSCF7312

8:20 am – hotel.  Last night the bus made a stop in front of a Shoppers Drug Mart at 11:50 pm.  It produced the junk food from earlier, plus chocolate milk as Brenda just copied other people’s ideas, which made me very happy.

DSCF7313

9:06 am – A&W.  40+ of us walked into A&W for breakfast [no worries, we pre-ordered]

DSCF7316

9:16 am – hotel.  Apparently since ice cream should typically not be eaten at 9 AM [which we were ignoring] both pictures decided to suck.

DSCF7318

11:00 am – hotel.  Headed out RIGHT on time!  Yes, that blue mattress was my bed.  It rocked, I slept awesome.

DSCF7340

11:45 am – home.  OMG.  FLIGHT FOR NEXT SATURDAY BOOKED!

DSCF7319

12:42 pm – Mark’s Work Wearhouse.  I have little understanding of WHY we need a winter simulator in a store when we have legit winter outside.

DSCF7324

3:19 pm – home.  Little pick me up.  I am SO freaking tired [See also: spent 16 awesome hours with junior high kids, got five hours of sleep, which is not in my properly-functional threshold of under 2 hours or over 6 hours].

DSCF7327

5:04 pm – kitchen.  My grandparents, aunt and cousin Dean were coming over for my grandpa’s birthday [which was last weekend].  I told my mom we needed a cupcake cake!  And guess what?  We got this one for all of $7 at Safeway!  EPIC.

DSCF7338

9:26 pm – kitchen.  My action plan for my Issues in Health class this week is based on spiritual wellness—the goal is to read my Bible for 15 minutes a day, five days of the week to get me back in the groove of actually reading it regularly.

Yeah my 12 started early, so it’s ending early.  I’m not going to do anything any more exciting the rest of the day!

new clothes!

So I went shopping today.  That’s something I don’t usually do, and I don’t usually buy a ton of stuff.  Today I got two new hoodies, two new pairs of jeans, and got home to two TO WRITE LOVE ON HER ARMS shirts in the mail.  Woohoo!

My friend Natasha has requested pictures, so I decided I’d share them here:

No pictures of jeans, because pictures of jeans are kind of boring.  Yellow and orange are fairly new colours to my collection [in hoodies anyways] and therefore I am excited.

Also excited about the girl in Bluenotes throwing seven pairs of jeans at me, only five of which I tried on.  Holy it was amazing.  I now own five pairs of good, wearable jeans now that are sans holes.  Because being down to three was, you know, terrible.  And I’m super picky when it comes to jeans and Bluenotes Girl helped me break out of that a bit, because these actually have a teeny bit of fading whatnot on them.

She still could not convince me to get the distressed/torn ones though.  She was trying and I was like “Uhhh nah, I can destroy my own jeans, thanks.”
