12 of 12 – june ’11!

On the 12th of the month, a bunch of bloggers from around the world take 12 pictures throughout the day.  These are my pictures for June 12th, 2011!  [It just happens to be my not-so-little cousin Dean’s birthday — happy 18th birthday, Deanie!]

He wanted to be in my 12, so here he is!

10:00 am – kitchen. Snacks for the day (which I didn’t need to eat).

10:28 am – front steps. Like my pink bracelets?  One is a friendship bracelet from Sam, the other is the new band I made for my medical tag yesterday.  They’re unintentionally matchy, but make me smile.

11:17 am – park. Church picnic, evidently.  Until I started hearing about my church’s picnic, I legit thought that church picnics were fictional events.  I was wrong.

11:34 am – park. Tara and I climbing the epic ropey structure thing.  Greatest play structure of my life, maybe.  I liked it a lot.

12:32 pm – downs. For Dean’s 18th birthday, we went to the race track so that Dean could do adult type things like bet, and my thirteen-year-old cousin, Alyssa, could still come.

2:36 pm – downs. Okay, so I bet on a horse, now what?  My horse didn’t win or anything, and I generally just don’t understand this whole betting on horses thing.

DSCF80223:19 pm – vlt lounge. Hmm, I’ve bet on horses AND went to the VLT lounge and didn’t get ID’d AT ALL.  Usually I’m ID’d as I walk in the door to places.  Either the Downs are slack, or I look old.

3:45 pm – downs. More horseys.

DSCF8026

3:50 pm – downs. My cousin Kevin, who was very into the racing.  He amused me more than the actual races did.

DSCF8029

3:55 pm – downs. ohmygoodnessisthisoveryet??!  Bored.

9:02 pm – kitchen. Juice and my epic Curious George background.  Prepping my 12 of 12.

it’s as simple as that

and from the lungs of a child
will come the everlasting breath of God

increasing peace and honesty
and not carrying on despite of me

it’s as simple as that, as simple as that, as simple as that

it’s got to be as simple as that, children
oh, you’ll see Lord

and if I don’t know who to love
i love them all
and if I don’t know who to trust
i trust them all
and if I don’t know who to kill
no suicide
i’m already dead

hippie-ish cafe

So, school has this  cafe.  And it is run by students and it is organic and it has legit compost bins  where apparently if you mess up and throw garbage in you mess up their compost and they have to start all over.  They play weird but good music, including Sufjan Stevens and The Meligrove Band.  They have a napkin dispenser that looks like this:Photo0387

They also have a cutlery dispenser that says “CUTLERY.  FOR HERE [arrow pointing down] TO GO [arrow pointing down]" and books about Louis Riel and lesbian coming out stories and hip hop music and art in 20th century Vienna.  You know, epic hippie stuff like that that students may be interested in [although, I have not yet found a book that I am interested in, but whatever] and flowers like this:

And a chalkboard wall that looks like this, with cartoon drawings of all the staff at the cafe or something

Oh, and we have one of these:

He is freaking AWESOME.

And that is the jist of my cafe at school.  We have delicious London Fogs that taste like sunshine and not-so delicious hot chocolate.  We also sell hippie-ish food, because that is what we do or something.  You know, like pita chips and hummus and toast and cinnamon buns.
